N.B It looks as if the Ferret Show may be re-instated for 2020, as someone has come forward who is interested in running it.  Watch this space!

The Lakeland Country Fair takes place at Torver, near Coniston, in beautiful countryside looking across to the Coniston fells and Coniston Old Man. It is easily accessible, at  Little Arrow, Torver, on the A593, a few miles west of Coniston village.

As well as being a typical Cumbrian show, the Lakeland Country Fair acts as a showcase for traditional Cumbrian skills and activities.  There will be sheep on display and demonstrations of hand-clipping will take place during the afternoon.

We have not yet decided on our Main Ring Feature this year, but we will update all information as soon as possible.  Recent displays have included Falconry, Fell Ponies and Duck-Herding!

Regular features of the show include a Terrier Show followed by Terrier Racing, a Lurcher and Whippet Show,  a family Dog Show, Childrens' Sports Challenge, a Stick Show, a Foxhound Show, and a Horn-blowing competition!  There will be Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, as well as Fell Races for adults and juniors. The 2019 show introduced an area for doggy activities, with various tests for all dogs to have a go at, including a scenting test, where the dog finds a hidden treat, a scurry and a recall test, run by experienced dog trainers Sandy Child and Chris Mancini of Torver.  This proved popular, and it is hoped to run this again in 2020.

Many traditional skills will be on show; these will  include stickmaking, chair-caning, fly tying, lacemaking, swill basket making, weaving, felting, spinning and sheep clipping. There will also be a number of Displays;  These will include Fell Poniesl, with information for people to learn about this ancient native Cumbrian breed.  There will also be a display of fell foxhounds and beagles, and the children will be invited into the ring to meet them and give them a stroke. A popular feature of the show will be teams from the local Young Farmers taking part in a Tug-of-War.

The Lakeland Country Fair offers something for all the family - as well as numerous Trade Stands there is a childrens' area with bouncy castle, roundabout, trampolines and other sideshows. There is a licensed bar, home-made refreshments and a barbecue.

We are keeping our low admission price as we want to encourage as many people as possible to come and enjoy the show.  Car parking is free, so this is an opportunity for an inexpensive day out to see a cross-section of Cumbrian life!
